Let it be?? Their time had long passed.
Review date: 2010-07-06 Rating: 2 out of 10
'Let It Be' is a reflection of the apolitical malaize the Beatles had found themselves in. By the time the record had hit the shelves, The Beatles time had long gone. Their fake smiles and predictable choruses were the symbols of apathy against a backdrop of revolution that was occuring all around them. 'Let It Be', probably more than any of their other recordings, symbolized this malaize which mirrored their own growing individualistic ego's.
The historical function of the Beatles was to serve as reactionary champions for the establishment during a period in history when many of their more innovative rivals were pioneering the movement of the counter-culture in places like San Fransico, New York and London. Bands like Oasis, Pulp and Blur performed that function during the Brit-pop phenomenon, and others fulfill that function today. That has been the true legacy of the Beatles.
In reality, the Beatles are increasingly looked upon by a growing group of enlightened music fans as an irrelevance - ie in a rather old-fashioned and twee way, much like the generation of music fans in the 1960s viewed people like Arthur Askey and Vera Lynn.
'Let It Be' is a testament to a band, who, throughout their entire career, had nothing relevant to say to a youth culture who didn't want to hear anything of relevance anyway, because they were 'happy' clinging on to every last banal word uttered by the loveable Liverpool lads in much the same way as similar statements and utterences by boy bands of today are clung on to by their adoring fans.
The Beatles from inception to their farewell, were cultivated and manufactured like no other band of the era. Once the artifice is removed, one is left with a bunch of mediocre musicians from Liverpool that got lucky and, as Piero Scaruffi puts it, "had nothing to say to their followers, which is why they didn't say it."

Let everything be by the Beatles! For lovers of Beatles' music, this is a must have. Each track is a quality song and listenable. Great for driving.
One Of The Best
Review date: 2010-03-09 Rating: 10 out of 10
I had this album on on Vynal many years ago and even watched the film in the cinema. It is in my view a classic album. Usually, Beatle fans can fall into two groups. Those that preferred their earlier stuff and those that preferred their later stuff. Personally I preferred their later stuff. This album has everything. From classics like Long and Winding Road to the newer (actually written in their Hamburg days), One After Nine Oh Nine. This record actually has an atmosphere about it. A good one. Like at a concert. I know some of the tracks were live, so there's one of the reasons. But, as I've said before, this is a classic CD. My personal top five albums by the Beatles, in no particular order are Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road, Revolver and this album. It truly is 'one of the best'.
