Guitar Hero 5 Game Only - Guitar Controller Required To Play

The game that started the modern music phenomenon is back, with more songs, more bands and more party game action. Just like Guitar Hero: World Tour you can play as a whole band with your friends, with lead guitar, bass, drums and vocals all working together in the same song.

What's new for Guitar Hero 5 though is that anyone can play any combination of instruments, so you can have four lead guitars if you want or even swap roles mid song. As a result each individual has their own Star Power meter and it's up to the best players to save others if things go wrong.

To encourage even more co-operation there's also the new Band Moments bonus, which doles out big rewards if every member of the team can complete a section together. With the RockFest feature adding tons of new game modes as well this is the best value Guitar Hero yet.

  • Monster of rock: The biggest Guitar Hero yet with new ways to play, new rewards and the biggest line-up of master recordings ever seen.
  • Jam with the band: Party Play option lets players join or leave a song whenever they want, or even change instruments or difficultly level mid-song.
  • Rock festival: New game modes including Momentum, which changes the difficultly as you play, and Elimination, where the weakest link player is dropped if they mess up.
  • Special moments: New "Band Moments" offer big rewards if everyone can co-operate for a set stretch of rock perfection.
  • Hall of fame: A record-breaking 85 songs by 83 different artists, including The White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty and more.
  • In the all-new Party Play mode, players can now jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly, without interrupting their jam session
  • Play with any in-game instrument combination in any game mode - multiple vocalists

Some good improvements, but still some problems

Most of you will have played a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game before. This game functions in exactly the same way - you get to pretend to be a hero on guitar, bass, drums, or vocals.

The new stuff that's great are:
    * Joining in any time: excellent for when people just want to join in, no pressure. They can even drop out if they fancy it, again no worries.
    * Not just a regular band line up: as already stated, you can now have duplicate instruments (or even 8 of the same) so no one needs to argue over who gets to be the vocalist. The downside to this is in the trophy set - you need 8 on the same instrument to get one of the bronze trophies, which takes a lot of co-ordinating (you can only have 4 local instruments, so the other 4 must be online players).
    * Diverse tracks: the tracks are more diverse here than in previous Guitar Hero games. However, maybe it's partly due to my own tastes in music, but I feel that a lot of the tracks really suck. There are lots of songs that I feel are "middle of the road", e.g. Bon Jovi. How many more times do I have to listen to a Bon Jovi song? There's not enough rock and metal music, which is why ultimately some gamers (such as me) prefer Rock Band/Rock Band 2.

This game is still fun if you play along with friends. But the overall experience isn't great because of the tracks. Yes, you can import songs from Guitar Hero World Tour, but it only imports about half of them. I was hoping it would import "Some Might Say", but that didn't make it, neither did "Beat It" or the Joe Satriani song. In that respect, it's a disappointment - hence the average rating.

If you already have Guitar Hero World Tour, forget this game unless you're after easy trophies (although some are frustrating, but still easy in terms of skill level). It's not a bad game, but in the grand scheme of things it's also nothing special. At least The Beatles Rock Band had three-part vocals, which was something VERY new and different.

    pretty good game
Review date: 2010-01-07 Rating: 10 out of 10

the game is quite fun and there are lots of things to do on it including the career but unlike most guitar hero games you are now able to do the career with other people online if you don't have anyone else to play with. The trophies on it are relatively difficult to achieve and take a lot of time to do for example one bronze trophy where you have to play 100 songs in quickplay to achieve it. But guitar hero is not a game that you get just for the trophies if you a game like that then look somewhere else i would personally recommend assassins creed 2 or even cheaper the godfather 2 but i am not here to talk about them i am here to tell you about the game and how good it is. It has a wide choice of songs from older bob dylan tracks to things like Gorillaz. The career is fun and reasonably engaging although unfortunately there is no seperate career mode for individual instruments which is a unfortunate loss as it add far more game time. Guitar hero is something on the ps3 that is as family orientated as a wii game. All together it is a great game and i highly recommend it to all.

    A nice evolution
Review date: 2009-12-05 Rating: 8 out of 10

If you like this kind of game, GH5 is a great game. It is not a revolution compared to the previous versions but a nice evolution. The tunes are overall good and enjoyable to "play".

    More and better
Review date: 2009-11-27 Rating: 8 out of 10

If you liked GH World Tour you'll gonna love this one.
Remade graphic style, new game modes, more songs and great possibilities.
    Totally recommendable.
